Everything You Do Matters
Most people don’t realize the power of those words. They don’t realize that everything they do, everything they say, every choice they make matters to someone, somewhere, and they may not even know it. And I can prove it. When I was twelve years old I used to sell popcorn at the baseball games in my hometown. I didn’t make any money for it, but I love baseball, so it worked out. I’d put the concession box around my neck and shout, “Popcorn, get your hot popcorn.” One night during a game I noticed a couple at the top of the stands having an argument. It was getting heated, about to turn ugly. I walked past them going, “Hot popcorn, get your hot popcorn.” I stopped right in front of them, too the box off, sat it down in front of me and I checked every box of popcorn. Then I put it back on and went, “Popcorn. Get your popcorn.” I left out the word ‘hot’ because every box I checked was cold. And the way I did it made them laugh so hard they forgot what they were arguing about. I walked past them thirty-minutes later and they were snuggled up enjoying the game. They left that night holding hands. The point of the story is this: I ran into that guy seven years later. He knew my family and he knew of me. And he said that what I did that night saved his marriage. He said they were on the verge of breaking up for good until I made them laugh so hard they realized that what they were arguing about wasn’t worth breaking up their marriage over. They were still married seven years later and had three children. Today they’re both in their seventies, still married; they have six children, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren – None of which would have happened if I hadn’t done what I did that night at the baseball game. Their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will never know me, but they owe their very existence to what I did that night when I was twelve years old. EVERYTHING YOU DO – MATTERS. My Feelings On church

My wife and two boys just left for church. I didn’t go. I don’t usually go to church and there’s a reason for it – it’s boring, plain and simple, it’s boring. The Choir can’t sing and every church you go to, at least every white church you go to, there’s always one member of the choir who sings way off key. And the preacher, bless his heart, cannot keep the congregation awake. He tries, but he’s just to blah. But that’s not the only reason I don’t go to church. I don’t go because I don’t know what to believe. I’m not so ignorant that I believe there is a man in the sky with a long, white beard and robe who actually walks streets of gold and there’s a red man down below who has horns and a pointed tail. My mom believed that. She said it was because of all the pictures she saw of God made her believe there was an actual man in the sky. I’ve read parts of the Bible. It seems like a fairy tale book to me. Moses and the Ten Commandments, Sampson and Delia, Noah and the Ark, David and Goliath, these stories are pretty hard to accept as being true. I’ve had a lot of people explain things to me that make sense out of religion. The most sense came from a man I met from Africa. He said God gave us the right to think for ourselves and it’s up to us to look after each other. If the people are starving in third world countries, it’s not because of God; it’s because of us and our greed. When I say “us” I mean all the people of the world. But it’s our responsibility to take care of each other; it’s no longer God’s responsibility. Some would look at this as saying, “Great, God has given up on his own people.” I just look at it as being a world full of selfish people. Maybe if religion didn’t have all the idiots on TV hurting it then it would be more acceptable. Maybe if Christianity didn’t push itself on everyone, maybe if it became more dark and secret like the devil then young people would get into it more. If you want to get through to the younger generation, maybe you should try texting the Bible. Maybe if Catholic Priests quit abusing young children, you know, if the 18th Century a man whose name escapes me now, tried to translate the Bible to the common people was assassinated by the Catholic Church because they didn’t want it translated. They wanted to keep it to themselves. I wonder what part of ‘Thou Shalt Not Kill’ is it that they do not understand. Maybe if Jimmy Swaggart practiced what he preaches? Maybe if religion hadn’t caused so many deaths and wars in the past. Maybe, just maybe then I would understand why it is I need to be a Christian. I prefer to be Spiritual, thank you. I do good, but I don’t answer to an ignorant preacher who is trying to put garbage in my brain.

Who Is B.C.

Brad Carver a.k.a. BC is a personal development coach, author and humor therapist. For twenty years he toured North America as a professional stand-up comedian. His act was always different because he didn’t use foul language or adult subject matter. That’s still an oddity today in the comedy world.

BC switched from stand-up comedy to professional speaking in 2001 after the birth of his first son. BC was fifty-two years old at the time. His second son came along when he was fifty-five. His life since then has never been better.

Today BC does stress relief seminars and self-improvement coaching for corporations, associations, Chambers of Commerce, hospitals, schools, small businesses and civic organizations.
